Threshold concept #3: Photography is a hybrid kind of picture making, democratic and diverse.
I have considered the playful side of photography and how it can illustrate a life. During the experiment I took into consideration the time period in which the life was set, exploring the style of photograph popular at that time, and playing with genres and how we can manipulate an image.
Amalia Ulman, Trish Morrissey and Bob Rogers explored the world of fictional characters through photography, expanding on the reach of photography and the influence it has. Similar to us, they constructed photographic lives based on a plot or a situation they have stumbled upon, trying to convince the viewer/audience of a lie based on reality. Photography lies, that is what we have been experimenting with, the reality of an image. Can an image be wholly truthful?
